Owl and Rainbow

Last night I was throwing away some trash and I saw one of those plastic owls that people put up next to their boats so birds don't come around and poop on their vessels. Then it moved. "Oh my God," I thought to myself. I crept back to my RV for my 600mm lens. It was perched on the volleyball net. This was taken at 11 p.m.
I have seen at least one rainbow every day I have been here.

  1. My urban sprawled bruised psyche is yearning for this natural beauty. Again, you have gotten me SO excited about my imminent Alaskan vacation Kent. Cudos to you for all the work that went into this blog. Can we have an Alaskan night, and all that implies, at your house, when I return to Michigan in July? Thanks also, for mixing it up with the Wood gene pool.

  2. owls scare me. at the hardware store i used to work at we sold those fake ones. and my coworkers would set them randomly around the store facing me so they would all stare at me. and then place them next to me while i was helping customers. it was not fun.

there's another thing to add to my list of fears :)

but i love the rainbow photo

  4. I'm betting a Great Horned Owl. It has a habitat range that extends to the artic circle. The Lessr Horned Owl prefers a warmer climate and is found primarily in the lower 48, I believe. This may be an adolescent however. It looks a bit petite but there is not much of anything to referance size. Great photo though especially since these birds are generally nocturnal (although if it does not get dark that can be difficult) and not very social.
